Report on the Club Meeting, Jan. 27th 2022

Twenty one members attended the meeting, and apologies were received from KK, Denise, Steve H, Steve L, Adrian H, and Ian.  It was great to welcome back Jill and Charlie Prior, who will be cycling with us again now they’re retired.  Phil announced that every member at the meeting had paid their subs! but a reminder to anyone else; please pay yours soon.

Fred chaired the meeting and thanked Barbara, KK and Denise for their work on our beautiful tree at the Princess Pavilion display of Christmas trees.  He reminded us that the club had donated £350 each to two charities, Hidden Help and the Sowenna Appeal, and had received letters of thanks.  Suggestions for next year’s charities would be welcome.

The Pathfinder on Jan 23rd was very well attended, with 25 riders on 24 bikes.  Full details in Simon’s ride report.  Jan’s Pilates class is going well, with just one space available.  Mondays at 5.45pm, £3 a session.

Forthcoming events:  The Pathfinder will be on February 27th from Cardinham woods to the Jamaica Inn, led by Fred.  More details nearer the time.

The club Audax is on Sunday April 10th, and Robin’s trip to Mallorca is April 23rd to 30th, fully booked.  The Mines and Minerals Audax is on June 19th from Carharrack, organised by Simon, and Martyn’s Audax, with three distances, 200k 100k and 50k, from Devoran (or Perranwell) is on July 10th.  The Coast and Clay Sportive, in aid of CHC and from Padstow, is on July 17th.

Sarah told us her trip to Mallorca is on Sept. 16th to 23rd and would cost £650 inclusive, but exc. flights.  Non-cycling partners welcome.  See Sarah if you’re interested.

Next month’s meeting, February 24th, is the club AGM, and if anyone would like to challenge any committee member for their place, you need to have sent your nomination, in writing, with a proposer and seconder, by Feb. 10th. If you have a topic for AOB, it needs to be with the secretary by Feb. 17th, with details of what you want to discuss.  The official business should soon be over, and then we’ll enjoy a talk on care of your bike from Mike of COGs, and KK will hold his raffle.  Please bring a wrapped prize – the one you didn’t bring at Christmas? or something else.

Fred presented the Awards which had been held over from our cancelled Christmas party; the Achievement Award went to Teresa for doing a great job organising the Wednesday evening pub rides, and the WOW cup was for the whole club, for keeping going during a really difficult year.  Golden Spokes went to Robin for bouncing back after his surgery, and to Phil Conroy for the being the cycle repair man for the ladies!

After the meeting, Jan gave us a very interesting and useful talk on exercises for cycling, and how important it is to warm up properly before a ride.  She demonstrated various exercises to  strengthen the muscles for cycling, and how to treat strains and injuries, and answered our questions at the end.  Thanks again to Jan.

The meeting closed at 8.45pm.
