Report on the September 2nd meeting

The meeting was held a week late – so we have another one this month on 30th – and apologies were received from Fred, Steve L, Adrian, Dean E, Robin and Jo.  The club would like to send sincere condolences to Fred whose brother passed away very recently.  Amanda and Phil S. chaired the meeting.

Past Events:

The Falmouth and Penryn Cycling Campaign was a success with about 25 families taking part. It’s hoped it will become a regular Saturday event, to encourage more people to start cycling.

Forthcoming Events:

The Tour Of Britain arrives in Falmouth this Sunday, Sept. 5th, at approximately 1317 at the Point.  Please meet at Gylly beach at 1100 wearing club kit, to ride round the point in groups before the road is closed at 1200.  We’ll re-group back at Gylly after the Tour has passed.  The trailer with the Falmouth Wheelers logo on has been given a spot up on the point, right next to the big screen – and look out for the club chalk paintings on the road!

Sept 19th:  The Pathfinder from Longrock organised by Ian.  Meet at 9.45am, or at 8am at Halvasso weighbridge if you’re cycling down.

Sept 26th:  The Club Audax from Falmouth Cricket Club, organised by Phil Conroy.  The entries are coming in, and there are none on the day, so please get yours in soon.  There are two distances, 100k and 50k.  Our Audax has been famous for its tea, and we want to keep up that tradition!  The sandwich makers are organised, and so far ten members have volunteered to make cakes etc, but we need more.  The sign up list will be at the Pathfinder, or just tell any of the committee what you’ll be bringing.  Thank you!

Sept 30th:  Our second meeting this month, when Robin will be giving a talk.

Oct. 2nd:  The Lands End 100 Sportive.  There are three distances, 105mls, 71mls and 46mls, all with a £40 entry fee, but club members can get a 10% discount by using the code FMWHEELERS when registering at  landsend100.co.uk

A.O.B.

The Crate cafe on muddy lane will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Sept 3rd, but not open on Sat. 11th or Oct.3rd.  Dawn has asked us to call ahead if a large group is arriving, so she can cope!   07931679961

Jan hopes to run a Pilates class this autumn/winter, for 10 sessions.  More information soon.

The new data Protection forms and Membership forms were handed out, to be filled in with contact details and medical information, to be used in an emergency.  Members should have received the new Membership pack by email several weeks ago, and we have a few printed copies for anyone not on the internet.

Kath and Jan are heading up to the Glastonbury Sportive this weekend, 100 miles with some challenging hills!  Kath and three others are leaving on Monday to cycle from Cardiff to Holyhead in Wales – they’ll give us an illustrated talk at the November meeting.

With no other business, the meeting closed at 8.15pm.
