July meeting Report

The meeting last night was back in the newly refurbished Wood Lane Social Club, but with fewer members than usual because of the very wet and windy evening.  Apologies were received from Phil S, Simon, Paul and Hilary, and Robin.   Fred chaired the meeting.

Past Events – The Coast and Clay Sportive was on July 18th, in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care.  14 members took part in four different distances.  It was an extremely hot day but the event was very well organised and £15,000 was raised for the charity.

Forthcoming Events – on Saturday July 30th the Falmouth and Penryn Cycling Campaign will leave from the Town Station at 2pm to go round the Point.  It’s intended to encourage families to cycle and it would be nice if our members supported them.

Sept. 5th, Sunday – The first stage of the Tour of Britain comes through Falmouth.  Meet at Gylly beach, in club shirts!  at 11am to ride in groups around the point before the tour arrives.  There’ll be a big screen at the point, and our trailer – Robin and Ian to organise.

Sept. 19th, Sunday – the Pathfinder form Longrock led by Ian.  Third time lucky with the weather?!  Meet at 9.45am, or for those cycling down, 8am at the weighbridge at the top of Halvasso.

Sept. 26th, Sunday – Our Club Audax from the Cricket Club, organised by Phil Conroy.  It’s all good to go, but there’ll be no entries on the day.  100k and 50k distances.  The food will be made in advance so just drinks served from the kitchen.  Please volunteer to make or buy cakes etc. There’ll be a list to sign up, at the September 2nd meeting.

AOB

Dean will be organising the Rides Group.  Fred asked for ideas for talks or presentations at our meetings – Robin will be giving one at the Sept. 30th meeting, and Simon on cycling etiquette (?!) on Oct 28th.  Hopefully we’ll have a social event – maybe a meal out  – on Oct 14th or 21st.

Forms will be sent out after the next meeting for members to sign our new Data Protection form and to give their full details for club records.

The next meeting will be on Thursday September 2nd, as Fred cannot make August 26th.  Wood Lane is open from 7pm and our meeting will start promptly at 7.45pm.
