The Long Ride – catching up. Don’t the weeks fly by!

We went to Newquay on the 18th April. Philby, (Phil B 🥴) Ian, Amanda and Sylvia joined me and my trusty ordnance survey maps (loaded on my phone) on a magical mystery tour of the back lanes beyond Fraddon – off piste and new lanes even for Ian!

I’d researched a cafe open near the harbour but the queue and lack of anywhere to sit prompted us to try our luck in Perranporth. Then Ian remembered the cafe in Crantock – an excellent call and the Jam Jar Kitchen served us lunch and excellent coffee. Amanda was happy with the coffee so we were all relieved 🤪😂. We’ll be back 😋🍰☕️

The following week saw a poor turnout – just Ben and myself! 😢So we ditched the idea of the Ladock valley opting for the King Harry ferry instead – then via Tubbs Mill to Pentewan for coffee. Big climb out to Charlestown and on to Tywardneath where the local pub was supposed to serve draught Bass. Sadly it had recently been taken over by St Aweful though we were told a condition of the sale was to keep the Bass flowing. The beer garden was busy – so busy we weren’t getting served and we carried on without a drop … 🤪. More steep hills, then we met Martin and Margaret sitting in the front of a pub ( we stopped here on Kath’s pubfinder ride 😂😂😂) just outside Luxulyan. Nice to see them out. We’d now turned sufficiently west to avail of the crazy easterly wind. And back home via the Ladock valley.

This week Phil C joined Ian, Amanda, Chris, Ben and myself on a ride to Mousehole. We went via Black Rock, Leedstown and Relubbus to check how long it would take to cycle to Longrock for Ian’s Pathfinder. I do like that road from Leedstown to Goldsithney, nice tarmac and rolling rather than hilly.

It was unusually crowded in Mousehole but we still found plenty of seats to spread ourselves, enjoy our lunch and bask in the sun. The sun always shines in Mousehole. And on the righteous 🤔😂.

Then home via a pleasant detour through Paul and Sancreed followed by Crowlas and Long Lane. A wonderfully calm sunny day to be out on a bike. Beer at the Lockdown after.
