The Sunday “Long ride” report

It’s become a regular thing – making the long ride, well, a long ride! First we rode to Lostwithiel and, via the Bodinnick ferry, returned through Fowey and Charlestown. Then the following week, via Tresillian and the small and very quiet lanes around St Michael Penkevil and Ruan Lanihorne we rode to St Mawes. This week we went to Porthgwarra, a tiny cove just east of Lands End. Amanda joined Phil, Ian, Chris and myself. She had said she might return with the Marazion ride – but they were running a bit late – something to do with a recumbent Frenchman…..This week Amanda went all the way.
As we got closer I started to get worried about the descent. Sorry the dissent! All four were grumbling about it possibly heaving with tourists – or film crew as Ross Poldark bared his chest and Demelza stood dutifully by with a towel. (Gill’s now telling me I’m a plonker ‘cos they filmed that bit eons ago.)
I shouldn’t have worried because it was a perfect cafe stop and quite quiet and, amazingly, completely sheltered from the strong south westerly wind. An excellent ride they told me later. On the way home we had to carry out beer checks both at the Star in Crowlas and The Blue Anchor in Helston. I’m pleased to say they both passed with flying colours.
Anyone wanting to join the long ride is very welcome. It’s not elitist nor very fast – Amanda pace really. It helps if you don’t mind beer sampling.

Editors note: Is Gill right?
