Weekend Away in Lymington

I was going to see my Mum, who lives in Lymington, and knew that the forecast for  Sunday was going to be good so it seemed a shame not to be able to get out on the bike. So I used good old Social Media and contacted the Lymington Tuesday cycle group.  I had a lovely message back and we made arrangements to meet up at 10.00 at the Town Hall on Sunday. Paul and Mike were there when I arrived shortly followed by Sheila and John on their Tandem.  The guy who cycles up from Southampton had obviously decided it was too windy and didn’t arrive so the 5 of us it was.  We set off at a nice steady pace and I just enjoyed the lovely flat or rolling roads through the New Forest.  They did apologise about the lack of hills,  I was just glad that there weren’t any.  We made our way out of Lymington along roads that I have never been down and then onto the open forest roads.  There was quite a headwind which made up for the lack of hills I suppose making it quite hard work.  Some of the roads I recognised from previous rides, the Gridiron, Sportive and the Audax rides.  We passed Horses and Cattle just munching by the road side and arrived at our Coffee stop which was a very popular lovely cafe/garden centre, Hockey’s cafe. It was nearly nice enough to sit outside. Coffee and cakes were consumed and a puncture repaired and we were on our way back along some pretty fast tarmac and with a tail wind it was brilliant cycling.  Back by just gone 2, a quick cup of tea with Mum and back to Cornwall.

I was so pleased to have been able to ride with the Lymington cyclists and really honoured as they really are the Tuesday cycle club and had only ridden on Sunday because I was coming up.
