Long ride – Sunday 25th Aug

On a fine hot sunny Sunday morning it was one lonely rider that left HQ for the long ride to Wheal Martyn Cafe near
St Austell. Luckily just down the road Robin was joined by Phil Bartlet. Mean while I was on my way to the Norway Inn, arriving early I resisted the full English and ordered a coffee and shortly after was joined by Steven Hills. Robin and Phil quickly joined us and we set off to meet Julian at Waitrose.
Now all five together we headed off up the Ladock Valley, Summercourt, White Cross and Bugle before arriving at Wheal Martyn. Food was served but with Robin having to visit the Kitchen to find the missing bacon from his bacon sandwich. Back on the road. The heat was certainly rising as we headed to the King Harry via Sticker and a stop was needed at the Roseland Inn for refreshments.
It was here that two ladies commented on how hot Steven and myself looked, don’t think they thought much of the rest of the group but Steven did thank them for their comments. Onwards to the ferry which had a number of other cyclists and two impressive young children who didn’t seem at all phased by the climb up the other side. Around the point where we were met by Ian and we headed for the Old Quay Inn as Ian had not yet had refreshments.
Unfortunately it was closed so off to the Royal Oak it was for a pleasant debrief and then home after 70 ish miles.
Thanks to all for the company and thanks to Robin for a very pleasant route.
Dale.
