Post by Margaret » Mon Apr 09, 2018 11:58 am

Having faffed about a bit trying this, I thought I'd share what I think is a reasonably efficient way to get a photo gallery post onto the website.

1.Get the photos you want to post together in a folder on the computer - if you want to do any renaming or resizing do it here. The site will accept large images, and I uploaded 3-4 Mb images, but in retrospect downsizing to around the 1Mb size is probably a good idea.
2. Log in and Add a new post as explained by Chris http://forum.falmouthwheelers.club/view ... ?f=14&t=29. Set the Category to Photo Gallery, plus any other categories you want to include (e.g., News, Ride Reports). Add any Tags and set one of the photos as the featured image.

3. Click on the Add Media button and select the Upload Files tab. Drag your photos into the area and wait for them to upload. The photos should all be selected at this point, but you can adjust this if you need to. You can also add any titles, captions and so on.

4. Choose Create Gallery on the left side of the window. The button on the bottom right changes to Create a new gallery - click on it.

5. In the window that opens, use Gallery settings on the right as follows:
Link to - change to Media File so that people can open full size photos from the gallery
Size and Type - Not all combinations seem to work well, depending perhaps on the sizes and shapes of photos. Tiled Colums or Tiled Mosaic with Medium or Large size seems a good start.
6. Click Insert Gallery.
7. Use Preview and the Edit button (pencil icon) on the Gallery to get a layout that looks good, then Publish.

WordPress might seem daunting, but it is very easy to use once you know the basics.

First of all you will need an account on our website. To get this click on the Register Tab at the top of the site
https://preview.ibb.co/cgBkuc/1.png
You will then be asked to create a username and give your email address to which details on how to complete your registration will be sent.
https://image.ibb.co/neAOfH/6.png
Once your account has been created you will be automatically assigned as a "Subscriber" which basically means you can only comment on posts. If you want to create your own content then your account will need to be changed by an Administrator or Editor to Author. But most FW Members will be changed to Author as soon as an Admin sees your registration.

Once registered, and an Author, you will be able to post your own Ride Reports, News Items etc. Please note though that the WordPress main page is only for News, Ride Reports, Galleries etc. Anything else needs to be posted in this forum, details on how to use this forum are available on this link.

So First Log In....
https://preview.ibb.co/cgBkuc/1.png
https://image.ibb.co/jW5BZc/2.png

Once logged in you will be taken to your "Dashboard" with options on the left hand menu.
https://image.ibb.co/edgULH/3.png
The only ones you really need to worry about are posts, comments and Profile.

Under Posts you will be able to see all posts. As an Author you can only edit your own posts.
Comments, you can see all comments, and edit or delete your own.
In Profile you can change your profile options like your name and password.

To write a post, eg a ride report, click on "+New" at the top of the page. Doing so will bring you to This Page
https://preview.ibb.co/iQjifH/4.png

From here it should be quite easy to create your post.
Just one or two things to mention though. All posts are automatically designated the as being a Ride Report. To change this click the check box you wish to use under Categories
https://image.ibb.co/mU310H/categories.png
If adding a picture, please scroll to the bottom of the page and click Set Featured Image. This will make the image feature on the main page with the excerpt of the text of the post.
https://image.ibb.co/b5pKnx/featured.png
Then to add your image either drag the file from your computer into the page, or manually navigate to where the image is saved on your computer to upload it.
https://preview.ibb.co/dxhGZc/add_image.png
If you want more than one image in your post you can insert these inline in the post by just dragging from your file explorer into the WordPress post.
The format box near the top right allows you to change the format of the post. The most used, therefor default is Standard. If you are uploading lots of images into a gallery then use gallery etc.
https://image.ibb.co/dHmznx/format.png
Finally all that is left to do is post your content. To do this at the top right is the Publish box.
https://image.ibb.co/cGoZLH/publish.png
Here you can either save it as a draft, which obviously doesn't publish it to the main page, change its privacy (not needed) or publish immediately or by clicking edit choose to publish in the future. Once happy with your post click publish and it will upload it to the site!

Cheers. Chris
