Sunday 10 o'clockers - 29/01/12
Jan 30, 2012, 12:57 pm

The invisible cyclists enjoying their tea and cake at TrebahKK led out one group of nine whilst Birdman led the other group of four (on a slightly longer route) to meet up at Trebah Gardens for tea and cake.
Much banter was had along the way as we puffed up the hills and tried to keep up with the tandem (Red Leader and Mrs Red Leader) on the way down. There was a friendly new face – Bill I think – and he says he’s coming back out with us, which is good. We passed along very quiet lanes to Trebah and past beaches on the way home avoiding any mud which seems to be everywhere at this time of year. No mechanicals or punctures and only a smattering of rain at the end, the 10’0clock short rides (estimated 18 and 25 miles) are a perfect way to start the day. Jono

PATHFINDER RIDES 2012
Jan 30, 2012, 12:31 pm

The idea was talked about last year that we have a Pathfinder Ride in 2012 that takes us further afield.  I have done some basic research and been in touch with CTC West, and the following could be ideal for us. These are 'Audax' or similar events which we could join; as with all of these type of rides, there would be a nominal entry fee on the day.  At least we would be riding in new territory for most of us.

Sun. 29th April - starting Langport, Somerset: The Merry Monk 105k Audax or the Nutty Nuns 203k
Sun. 13th May
- starting Apperley (near Tewkesbury), Glos.  Gospel Pass 200k Audax, YatMon 150k or Hoarwithy 100k
Sun. 10th June
- starting Winterbourne, N of Bristol. Vets 100 mile in 12 hours (this is essentially the same as the TriVets ride I did in 2007)
Sun.  8th July
 - starting Cheltenham, Glos. 100 miles in 8/10/12 hours or 100k in 6/8 hours (reliability trial)

Can we think about these for discussion at the next meeting and decide which would be the preferred one to investigate further? Obviously, with the Vets event, there are one or two of us that don't - er - qualify!  But I am sure we can 'circumnavigate' this?
If there is sufficient interest, then I will go ahead and take this on and find out more, especially with regard to accommodation etc. Richard (Many thanks and good effort Richard 1. Ed.)

It's all going down at the Lizard - Sunday 9 o'clockers - 22/01/12
Jan 26, 2012, 1:31 pm

An unpromising day dawned but a reasonable group gathered at Falmouth Packet offices,14 made it. We set off for the Lizard deciding to take the creek roads for a change.
At Mawnan Charlie left us to do his own thing nursing his dodgy knee. Bernie left us at the bottom of Constantine shortly followed by Amanda and Richard 1. So the remaining 11 continued to Gweek and thus to Kuggar ending up in Pete's cafe at the Lizard. Here we met Robin who had cycled to St Austell to meet some St Austell Wheelers who then rode to The Lizard purely by coincidence. Robin then stayed with us as the other guys were returning back home. So, 12 of us returned home via Gweek. A nice ride on a gloomy day.  Tip of the week: Change your chain before it's too late. Fred.
(Robin informs the news desk that the St Austell Wheelers were all horified to witness the FWs tuck in to fry-ups mid-ride. That's why they're SWs and we're FWs. Ed.)

New Year's Ride Report 2012 (Better late than never!)
Jan 19, 2012, 2:15 pm

Helston Trevor’s ride was a brilliant success but sadly enjoyed by just four of us, Wayne and Raymond also from Helston, Trevor and myself. Initially I wasn’t going as I was just recovering from manflu but I had a text from JB ( also recovering from the same male specific sickness ) enquiring if I would be going. It was New Years Eve and though the weather was miserable, I thought, why not!

Gill dropped me with my mountain bike at Longdowns giving me just an hour to get to Goldsithney where I joined the Helston Three for a pre-ride pint. It was cold sitting outside waiting, and with no others joining us ( I think JB had the really serious strain of manflu ) we headed off through Marazion and along the coastal track (ridden by Trevor that morning) to Penzance and then by road to Mousehole. The lights were a truly awesome spectacle, and the pint in the Ship Inn was most welcome. Already dark outside, it wasn’t long before we headed home, illuminated by Trevor's amazing new lights.

Along the small country lanes we enjoyed a thrilling ride the like of which I’ve not experienced before. In next to no time we were in Helston where, rumour has it, Trevor and I slipped into the Blue Anchor for a pint. Not true - we had three! It was New Years Eve and we are Falmouth Wheelers! And for those that are counting Gill came to pick me up! Hic. Robin

It's caketastic!

Here's a picture of the truly fantastic cake that Candy House Celebration Cakes (c/o Denise and Jo) made for our Christmas party raffle and caused Jim and Jan to gain a few extra pounds over Christmas. Many thanks Denise and Jo for your (annual) generosity. Best ever!!

The UK does it again...
Dec 22, 2011, 4:14 pm

We have yet another world champion cyclist. Click here to see Danny Hart complete a truly amazing downhill run and listen to the most hysterical and funny commentating you'll ever hear ending with an extraordinary exclamation about Danny's wedding tackle! My favourite bit is when the commentator screams "Ron! I'm going to give you a high five!" Ed.
