French trip
Sep 18, 2012, 5:40 pm

8 Wheelers enjoyed another eventfull trip to France.  The trip started with Brittany Ferries landing us in Brest instead of Roscoff, gave them a bit of fun getting Keith and Christine's Tandem onto a fully loaded coach, Charlie and Jill had a coach between themselves and two other cyclists.  Friday afternoon we did a short ride around the west of Roscoff and in the evening went down to Roscoff for our meal and a bit of celebrity spotting.  Saturday we were joined by Parky and Hilary for a ride into Morlaix.  On our return to St Pol we met up with a stag party, the groom even seranaded us in the square and no he could not sing.

Tour of Britain - Caroline's report
Sep 18, 2012, 9:36 am

Four Wheelers - Ironman, KK , Caroline and Victor, headed to Dartmoor to see the challenging stage of the Tour of Britain. We had good weather, saw some fantastic scenery and plenty of flag waving.  We did see ourselves on the highlights programme, and we also saw the (ex) Wheelers trailer on the programme, a very enjoyable trip out! - Caroline (Full report will go in newsletter.)

Tour of Britain - Robin's report
Sep 18, 2012, 9:32 am

We stayed at a B&B at Lowertown Dartmoor on Friday night in readiness to find a good spot on the Coffin Stone hill to watch the category 1 King of the Mountain climb on Saturday. Thanks to the clear blue skies, and it being a weekend, the crowds were more reminiscent of a mountain stage in the Tour de France. And I couldn't resist joining the other riders who tested themselves on the hill beforehand, encouraged by the hundreds of people lining the route. It was an amazing atmoshpere. Robin (Full report in the news letter.)

Farm walk and Cream tea
Sep 10, 2012, 4:31 pm

Whilst many Wheelers were riding the Golowjy ha Bal a dozen of us visited the Dales farm at Mylor, for a Farm walk and Cream tea, in aid of Dementia UK, KK said we had to support them as we will need them soon.  Many thanks to Paul and Hills for inviting us and to Mrs Dale for the Cream Teas.  Must say how good it was to see all the family living around the farm in the various cottages.

Golowji Ha Bal - as seen from a control
Sep 10, 2012, 2:57 pm

I have never spent so much time sat at a cafe, yes really! Nick Roberts was the first to arrive, and then the usual suspects, or Falmouth Wheelers, turned up. It was no surprise that they spent the most time here: obviously timing wasn't an issue!

I am sure a great day's ride was enjoyed by all; and thank you to Simon for keeping things going and thank you to the ladies at Little Pengelly for their welcome and service. Dan Dare

Penwith Peninsula Charity Cycle Ride - 9th September 2012
Aug 15, 2012, 4:46 pm

This is your chance to ride 40 miles, 20 miles or 6 miles around the beautiful Penwith Peninsula and it would be a good training ride for anyone who is thinking about doing a long sportive or the Lands End 100.
All the rides have spectacular views with the 6 miler taking in Mounts Bay, the 20 miler Mousehole and Newlyn and the 40 miler the breath taking(!) north coast between Sennen and Zennor.  There is no minimum sponsorship amount but all are encouraged to raise at least £50.

The monies raised will be split with 70% to Cancer Research UK and 30% to go to Mounts Bay Rotary Club. MBRC support a broad range of local organisations and individuals. It's only £10 to enter for over 18s, under 18s are free, under 16s must ride with an adult and fill in a parental consent form.

Don Gunners Sunday Off Road
Aug 13, 2012, 3:30 pm

As I classed this as a superb ride I was volunteered to write the report.
We set off from the Devoran car park with some very black clouds looming.  Within the first few minutes of the ride we had a short shower but apart from that it was dry and sunny for the rest of the ride.

A big thanks goes to Don who set a virtually all off-road ride through some very lovely parts of the county with some fantastic views. I'm not sure of the mileage but somewhere between 27 and 30 miles. Kath (Full report in newsletter.)
